Shelter and Childcare Aide
Position Responsibilities
- Provide direct childcare, carry out planned activities and recreational activities for the children.
- Provide a supportive listening environment in which children feel safe to express their feelings and needs.
- Assess children’s and mother’s needs through completion of arrival interviews as needed.
- Help to maintain a safe and orderly play space for the children. Inside and outside.
- Model nonviolent disciplinary options with children and intervenes when physical punishment is used or mothers need assistance.
- Implement an anti-racist, non-sexist program through attitude and behavior.
- Maintain records necessary to the children’s needs (children’s files, mother’s files, and daily logs).
- Assist with sorting of in-kind donations. Help to keep storage areas clean and stocked.
- Assist with cleaning bedrooms as needed when a resident departs.
- Reports to Child Protection Services, as mandated by law, upon consultation with the mother, Children’s Program Coordinator and Program Director.
- Provides support and constructive criticism for staff and volunteers.
- Maintains confidentiality of all residents and community women.
- Works well with people of diverse racial, cultural, social and economic backgrounds.
Position Qualifications
- Childcare experience is required.
- An understanding and sensitivity to women and children experiencing domestic violence.
- Ability to provide support to children in crisis.
- Ability to work well with people from diverse racial, cultural, social and economic backgrounds.
- Ability to take direction and have follow through.
- Experience in independent job structuring is desirable.
- Ability to work as a team member.
Other Requirements
- Pass a criminal background check.
- Valid Minnesota Driver’s license is required.
- Must be able to lift and/or carry up to 35 pounds.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel and climb (ascend and descend) flights of stairs.
Pay range is $18.00 - $19.00, based on your prior experience. We offer .40 cents differential pay for overnight shifts and .50 for weekend shifts.
Benefits: 403(b) retirement plan after 1,000 hours worked; ESST
Hours: Part time, 24 hours per week. Includes one evening shift per week and some weekends as needed.
